PDFs are excellent for sharing documents, but a digital publication can become much more engaging when readers can interact with the content. With AdFlip, you can transform a PDF into an online flipbook and add interactive elements to its pages.
In this guide, we will walk through a simple workflow for creating an interactive publication with clickable images, embedded videos, background audio, and online forms.
Upload the PDF
Prepare the PDF you want to turn into an interactive publication. It can be a brochure, magazine, catalog, portfolio, presentation, report, guide, or another page-based document.
Upload the PDF to AdFlip and let the platform generate your digital flipbook. Once conversion is complete, open the customization tools to start adding interactive content.
Upload a PDFAdd a picture with a link
Images can do more than make a page look attractive. Make an image interactive so that clicking it takes readers to another page of the publication or to an external website.
Open the image interaction tool, select the area where the image should appear, and upload the picture you want to use. You can replace it later from the editor.
Configure the destination for the image. For example, link it to a specific page in your flipbook or use an external URL. Where supported, an interaction indicator can make the clickable area easier to notice.
Add a YouTube video
Video is a useful way to add demonstrations, introductions, product presentations, tutorials, or other rich media to a publication.
In the editor, choose the video interaction, define the area where the player should appear, select the supported provider, and paste the video URL.
Depending on the video and available player options, you may be able to control behaviours such as autoplay, mute, and other playback settings.
Tip
Keep videos focused on the purpose of the page. A short product demonstration or introduction can add useful context without overwhelming the publication.
Add background music
Audio can create a more immersive atmosphere for portfolios, event publications, creative presentations, and promotional content.
Upload an audio file through the background-audio controls and configure where playback should begin and end. Where supported, adjust the volume and choose whether the audio should loop.
Always make sure you have the appropriate rights or licences for any music or audio you publish.
Embed an online form
Web embeds can make a publication interactive in ways that go beyond images and video. Use an embedded web area for forms, maps, calendars, product widgets, and other supported online content.
For example, create a form with an online form service, copy its embed code, and add a web interaction to the appropriate area of your flipbook.
Configure the embedded area so that it fits naturally within the page design and gives readers enough space to interact comfortably.
Example workflow
- 1. Create your form using a supported online form service.
- 2. Copy the service's embed HTML or supported embed URL.
- 3. Add a web interaction to your flipbook.
- 4. Paste the embed information and preview the result.
Preview and share
Once you have added your interactive elements, preview the complete publication and test every interaction. Check links, videos, audio, and embedded content before publishing.
When everything looks right, save your changes and share your flipbook using the publishing options available in AdFlip.
You can use a direct link or embed the publication on your own website to bring the interactive reading experience directly to your audience.
